President Obama has nominated Elena Kagan to be the newest member of the Supreme Court. Three thoughts:
1) Politicians, pundits and talk show hosts have already staked out their positions for or against her nomination, largely along the lines of their political party.
2) I do not know enough about her yet to have an informed opinion. That is what the Senate confirmation process is about.
3) But I do like this: When the president put forward her nomination, he declared that Kagan is "one who seeks to understand an argument before deciding whether to disagree."
That's one good application of "love your enemies."
How do you love your enemies?
Once I left a bag of Valentine's Day cookies with a nice note for a lady who I know hates me. She never mentioned it. Probably thought I'd poisoned them. :)

How do you love your enemies? I find in my heart what is good and I offer it. Sometimes its only a smile and a few pleasant words, but sometimes there's opportunity to discuss the trivial or not so trivial things we have in common. On rare occasions there's opportunity to . . . .
